Synopsis
Prague 1998, before the Velvet Revolution and overthrow of Communism. A romantic city and sublime music serve as the backdrop for this heart-warming tale. When Frantisek Lokua, a virtuoso cellist with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, makes a half-hearted verbal attack on a Communist bureaucrat, he is barred from traveling abroad. This finishes his career, and Louka is reduced to playing funerals at the city crematorium. The dream of a little fibreglass Trabant car (a symbol of the Communist era), in which he could transport his cumbersome cello and avoid the daily traumas of public transport, seems unattainable. Until a friendly gravedigger comes up with an interesting proposition: marry a young Russian who needs Czech papers.
