Synopsis

Marcel Marx, a former author, has retreated into a voluntary exile in Le Havre, where he feels he is closer to people, serving them in the honorable occupation of a shoe-shiner. He lives happily between his favorite bar, his work, and his wife Arletty, when he suddenly meets an underage African immigrant refugee. As Arletty gets seriously ill, Marcel once more has to rise against human indifference.
