Synopsis
In 1787, France is already seething with inevitable revolution. The Age of Enlightenment ignites. Jean-François de la Plaine is banished from the kingdom for having killed the King's friend. Leaving his beloved Louise in France, he is exiled to the African coast where he is to govern a tiny colony - a trading post on the banks of a capricious river. Within this exotic culture, sensuality, violence, and love have different fragrances. Here, in the heart of trade, slavery, and tribal wars, he is confronted with himself in a way never before experienced. Though his tumultuous, uncertain voyage, forging ahead on the bends of this unpredictable river in the center of Africa, Jean-François will live out his new revolution in the attempt to bring tolerance to the fore.
